Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the community structure of macrozoobenthos as a bioindicator of water quality in the mangrove ecosystem of Mengkapan Village and to create a high school biology learning poster focused on environmental change education. The research was conducted in the mangrove ecosystem of Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, and at the Biology Education Laboratory of FKIP University of Riau. The study employed a descriptive quantitative method with purposive sampling, using survey and belt transect techniques along 120 meters from the shoreline to land. Each station consisted of three transects, with six 20 x 20 m² plots and three 2 x 2 m² sub-plots for macrozoobenthos sampling. Main parameters included species composition, density, diversity index, evenness, and dominance index, while supporting parameters covered temperature, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen, substrate type, and organic content. The results identified 14 species from Gastropoda, Bivalvia, and Crustacea, with water quality categorized as lightly to moderately polluted. This poster design is expected to serve as an innovative learning medium that supports enhancing students' understanding of environmental and climate change issues, as well as acting as an educational tool that raises ecological awareness among students.
